According to estimates, pilgrims and visitors to the Kingdom this Ramadan spent over SR6 billion in the holy city of Makkah alone. Market experts say this is the highest amount of spending by pilgrims ever during the holy month.

Dr. Mahfouz Bin Marie Bin Mahfouz, a member of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that luxury towers and five-star hotels such as the King Abdul Aziz Endowment project that began this year played an important role in the increase of revenue.

Adab is the soul of knowledge

Don’t look down upon anything or anyone… The ego only loves itself. It is Kafir, not accepting Allah, and it wants to be sitting alone on the Throne. The Holy Prophet said: "Allah Himself has taught me the best manners, Adab."A human being is living through his soul, and the soul of knowledge is Adab. Knowledge without Adab is a misfortune for its owner. Shaitan had knowledge, but he had no Adab, behaving badly in Allah’s Presence, and then he was finished. Always the ego is bad-mannered, going against Allah, denying Him. It never likes to be under the control of anyone. All our egos are the same. We have to bring it under control, and train it to become Allah’s servant, and not be controlled by the ego.

Allah is not forcing anyone. Not everybody can keep his ego, and they are falling from one trouble into the next, never finding any rest or peace. Man needs, and must learn Adab. It is not easy to teach Adab. Someone may read hundreds or thousands of books, but he may not be able to control his ego. He may have knowledge, but he can’ t practice it. Shaitan had so much knowledge, and it didn’t benefit him. And everybody in our time wants to study, and they all fail the test…

And someone may go on Hajj, he may stay 40 days, make Hajj, Umrah, Ziyaret and become clean. Everything seems perfect. But then he gets on the plane home and he looks to a stewardess with desire, and everything is lost, finished… Six months, one year he stayed there, so many prayers he did, Tawafs, Umrahs, everything is good. But then, for one moment he doesn’t control his ego, forgetting that Allah is looking to him, forgetting and being without Allah, and Shaitan makes him from his staff…

Don’t give a chance to Shaitan, because he is always looking for an opportunity to catch people. There is Haram and Halal. Whoever is not respecting that border falls out of Adab with Allah. Few people want to save themselves from their bad-mannered ego. Tariqats and the four Madhabs are based on Adab, and that is why Shaitan is against them, because they are against his school. His school is the fifth Madhab, the school of Batil. So many people follow it… May Allah not leave us in the hands of our bad ego. Whoever is not asking that will be caught by Shaitan.

Your ego is telling you that you are number one, that nobody is like you. It is telling you that you don’t have to listen to anyone, that you are strong and know everything, that you are your own Sheikh. And the ego is lying to us.

What we are saying here is what they have put in our hearts, and we are ashamed in front of Allah and fearing Him because we are such ignorant ones, making so many mistakes and bad-mannered actions. Who is the Sheikh? He is that one who teaches you about Allah and His Prophet. How you can know by yourself? But they don’t want to accept a teacher, these Wahabi people. And whoever doesn’t accept a Sheikh, a Hoca, an Imam, a guide, Dalil, his teacher is Shaitan. He is telling them: "Why do you need a Sheikh?"

Follow a pure guide, that he may take you to purity because only pure ones will enter Paradise… Allah knows best who are the hypocrites… We are trying, working on it, asking to be clean. But: "Thumma amanu, thumma kafaru…" sometimes we believe and sometimes not, listening to our ego and Shaitan. On the way of faith, Iman, you can be saved…

And the Angels of the Grave will ask you if your face is turned to Dunya or towards Maula, Allah. They will ask you what is your Qibla, to where is your heart directed? If they find your face turned towards Allah, everything is good. But if they find your face turned away from Him, then Allah will also turn away from you. If in prayer you turn your eyes away from the place of Sajda, looking left and right three times, then Allah is saying: "My servant has turned away from Me. Leave him…" This is an important point in Adab… Don’t behave badly in the Presence of the Sultan…

May Allah forgive us and not throw us out of the Ummat-i-Muhammadi sws… Fatiha.

Most of us have heard and seen news reports about what is happening to our environment and how we must tackle this. It’s just become Politically Correct! The one thing we haven’t seen is Muslims doing their bit for the environment. Even before there was Green Peace or organisations such as Recycle now, we as Muslims have been taught by our Prophet Muhammed SallAllahu alaihi wasallam that:

“There is none amongst the believers who plants a tree, or sows a seed, and then a bird, or a person, or an animal eats thereof, but it is regarded as having given a charitable gift [for which there is great recompense].” [Al-Bukhari, III:513].

One familiar story from the life of the Prophet recounts how, during a journey, one of Muhammad’s companions removed a baby pigeon from a nest. Syedina Muhammad confronted the thief and gently returned the bird to its nest. "For charity shown to each creature with a wet heart, there is a reward," the Prophet declared.

In the words of Allah, "There is not an animal in the earth, nor a creature flying on two wings, but they are nations like you." (6:38)

The Muslim holy books tell of a woman who "was tortured and was put in Hell because of a cat which she had kept locked till it died of hunger." In another tale, a prostitute’s sins are washed away because she gave drinking water to a thirsty dog.

Islam has very specific guidelines about these issues of pollution and destruction of the resources of the earth. In the 4th chapter of the Qur’an, Allah says,

"There is not an animal that lives on earth, nor a being that flies on its wings, but forms part of communities like you." (Surat Anam: 38).

This concept from the Qur’an highlights the fact that all other creatures and ecosystems are nations in their own right. When you add to that the role of the human race as a khalifa (trustee), for example in Surat Al-Baqara, you can deduce that Islam has set a framework of how humanity should interact with its environment.

As Muslims it is our duty to fight for a safe environment and fight to stop global warming. According to the 2001 census 1,536,015 Muslims are living in England and Wales, where they form 2.7 % of the population, in Scotland they represent 0.84 % of the population (42,557). The Northern Ireland census indicated 1,943 Muslims. So, yes as we can make a difference, bit by bit. We urge all our Masajid/Mosque’s to teach it’s congregation to educate them how to tackle global warming.

We have created this section, with the help of Recycle Now, and we hope you do your bit for the enviroment.

Recycling your household waste couldn’t be easier. These simple tips will help you start to recycle now!
Keep it simple

Make space next to your bin for a recycling container - then it’s as simple to recycle as it is to throw it away.

Make life easy

If your local authority collects recyclable materials (e.g. paper, glass) as part of its waste collection service - take advantage! If not, Use the postcode locator to find your nearest recycling centre.

Remember those jars

Bottle banks also take glass jars (like your marmalade jar, pickled onions jar, spice jars …) and clear glass is especially desireable.

Savvy Shopping

*Make a shopping list so you buy only what you need
*Choose a bag for life instead of plastic carrier bags
*Buy refills – many cleaning products are available as refills
*Try reusable alternatives to throwaway items such as razors
*Avoid convenience foods with layers of packaging
*Buy loose fruit and vegetables rather than pre-packed
*Buy goods with a high recycled content

Routine recycling

Make a visit to a bottle, can or other type of recycling bank part of your routine – most supermarkets have recycling facilities so don’t forget to drop before you shop! Use our postcode locator to find your nearest facilities

Squash em and wash em!

When you’re recycling cans, squash them so they take up less room – and wash out food cans first

Wrapping paper

Some wrapping paper can be recycled - but only if it is plain white with simple printing. Be sure to remove all tape, ribbons, and bows, and fold it (don’t scrunch it) when you place in your recycling container.

Engine Oil

Get rid of old engine oil safely and cleanly by calling 08708 506506 or www.oilbankline.org.uk

Hazardous waste solutions

Go to the NHWF’s (National Household Hazardous Waste Fourm) Virtual House and see if you’ve got any hazardous waste lying around at home – you’ll also find out how to dispose of it safely.

Clear it out!

Recycle your clothes, books and unwanted gifts at charity shops, clothes banks or via charity bags at your doorstep.

Don’t dump old furniture

Look up details of furniture recyclers in your local phone book. Or, try the Furniture Re-use Network.

Brita Water Filters

If you use Brita Water Filters, don’t just bin them when you’re finished, recycle them by simply collecting up 6 and sending them to: Brita Recycling, FREEPOST NAT 17876, Bicester, OX26 4BR. (Ian G’s Top Tip)

Re-paint

Donate your left-over paint to www.communityrepaint.org.uk

Take away

If you get chinese/indian take away food that comes in plastic containers; wash them out and they can be used as tupperware for packed lunches or food storage. (Dawn’s Top Tip)

Inspired to start recycling at work? Here are some more tips to help you begin.
Start with the basics

Set up a recycling scheme for scrap paper. Make sure recycling bins are close to people’s desks - so it’s easier to recycle it than bin it.

Giving your equipment a second chance

Make use of computer and electronic recycling schemes for old equipment. Contact your local council or ICER (the Industry Council for Electronic Equipment Recycling) or REI (the Regional Electronics Initiative).

Buy smart

When buying printers, photocopiers and fax machines, choose ones with options for two-sided printing.

Stretching the envelope

Reuse envelopes for internal circulation and, if possible, with a sticker for external mail.

Drinks cans

Set up an aluminium recycling scheme at the office, especially if you have a vending machine with canned drinks. It’s also a good way to raise money for charity. Find out more about recycling aluminium from Alupro, and about how your chosen charity could benefit.

Try composting

Compost food waste from lunches etc, either in your workplace or through a local authority composting scheme.

Why did two men in Lancashire who were found with rocket launchers, BNP literature and a nuclear biological suit not make the mainstream news? The chemical components recovered by police are believed to be the largest haul ever found at a house in Britain. Of course! I know. The two men were not Muslims. You’ve probably heard all about it. If you didn’t, here’s a link to get you up to speed:

White terrorists don’t make the news

Well, I’m told it made page 20 of ‘The Evening Standard’, but the BBC site didn’t cover it. Did you hear anything?

Please pick up your phones and ask the major newspapers and TV channels why they didn’t make big news of the story.

In Love

If you yearn for eternal life, Rise! And travel with love. Go! And preach love since that is what it is all about, (and on this path of love) traveler shall find no better manifesto to chant about.

Impossible to speak the secret language of love, since mere words bear no glittering pearls at all. No matter what you utter, be assured that love is something else. Think not of love as a few letters, instead a secret hidden behind few alphabets. Heart is in charge of speaking the secrets of love, the adornment for heart’s proclamations is indeed love.

Loving not something of this world, loving no tall tales and legends. The universe of love is indeed another world, love infinitely loftier than this lowly word. Love’s hearth not just any home, and love desires not this terrestrial world. Love shall not land in just any dominion, the exclusive chamber of love is indeed the heart.

The stallion of love gallops fast, from one moment to the next in another place. Whomsoever rides along with love, his home on the other side of the universe.

The heart that is not redolent with the fragrance of love, just rubbles not a heart. Converse not in vain “this and that” about love, Rise! And bathe your heart in the waters of truth. Worship with heart against the evil of lusts, embark upon loving once purified from. Loving and love not mere games, lusting with desires never better than loving.

The one dying on the path of love, in the universe of perfection (Paradise) shall find life.

Where is my Beloved?

O! Breeze this dawn the sanctuary of the Beloved
Where?
The hearth of that skilled moon-faced lover-killer
Where? [1]

Whoever entered this world forsooth withers and decays
In the ruins of this tavern please tell me the soberness
Where? [2]

The harbinger points with metaphors and paradigms
Wisdom is abound but the treasurer of the secrets
Where? [3]

Each follicle of my hair midst a thousand dramas with You
Lost we are and that vain perpetual blamer and scolder
Where? [4]

Again asked the love’s waved locks of tresses
This broken sorrowful heart wandering in trouble
Where? [5]

Mind is maddened, the lover’s musky braids where?
Hearts forsaken us the eyebrow of the heartthrob
Where? [6]

The cupbearer, musicians and wine all here but
Partying without the lover no pleasure, so my love
Where?

Hafiz:
Suffer not from the Fall’s gales upon the life’s savanna
Think straight! And tell me again the thorn-less flowers
Where? [7]

———————————————————————————————–

[1] Moon and moon-faced are the Farsi expressions for extreme of beauty for a loved one perhaps a very close and intimate loved one.

[2] Hafiz calls the perpetual hazy process of annihilation of this world as a form of drunkenness for humanity. So he considers this world as a tavern, which the Sufis call the Kharaabaat (Ruins) where the person is intoxicated to death by the throes of destructions or by the love of the Beloved. Hafiz used the Koranic perspectives of drunken destruction as the theme here:

1. Koran [15:72], “Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro” the story of Prophet Lut Peace Be Upon Him and intoxication here is his people’s wallowing in sexual lusts.
2. Koran [50:19], “And the stupor (drunkenness) of death will bring Truth (before his eyes): "This was the thing which thou wast trying to escape!"” Referring to the drunken state prior to death as a force to remove the veils so the human being can see the truth.
3. Koran [22:2], “The Day ye shall see it, every mother giving suck shall forget her suckling- babe, and every pregnant female shall drop her load (unformed): thou shalt see mankind as in a drunken riot, yet not drunk: but dreadful will be the Wrath of Allah.” Intoxication in droves moments prior to seeing the Creator.

Hafiz is not referring to the wine and drunkenness due to alcohol consumption. Many Iranians in order to justify drinking and partying they intentionally misinterpret these verses. The religious clerics did the same in order to discredit Hafiz as a spiritual leader. Western Sufis should take heed and stay away from such blatant fraud and slender.

[3] Anyone can come up with a bunch of wise points and smart observations, but the harbingers always point to somewhere else i.e. the direction of the Beloved and point not at wisdom or some knowledge within this world. Harbinger points away… At the other world.

[4] I am not sure about the exact meaning here. He is in the midst of dramas with the Divine Tester i.e. his hardship and struggles of the Path (Tariqat) and people are blaming him for his trouble while his heart is indeed very close to the Beloved whilst in turmoil.

[5] Man does not know where he is in the universe? He has no clue about his position in the cosmos or how he even got here or when. So Hafiz asks these questions from the tresses i.e. Zolf which is a Koranic word for accosting towards the Beloved. ‘waved’ means beautiful because anything that brings you closer to the Beloved is indeed beautiful. Another interpretation is that of being tangled within these tresses to be firmly bound & saved from being lost and wandering.

[6] Eyebrow of the lover is the code word for several Sufi concepts:

1. Eye is under the cover of the eyebrow therefore the eyebrow is covering the vision. Kamaal Khojandi said that usage of eyebrow is to indicate the uncovering the secrets of Zhaat (Essence).
2. The oval place of the worship for devout Muslims who often fixed special room called Mihrab for prayers and it had an oval or semi-circle area where the person places the head during the prostration. You find this structure in most mosques as the picture shows. While the believer performs the prayers Allah’s eye is upon him/her therefore the bow of this structure us used as the metaphor of an eyebrow.

So Hafiz is wondering where is this bow or eyebrow to pray in to get his prayers heard?

[7] Hafiz is trying to think straight: There is no flower without thorn i.e. all pleasure in this life shall end with some sorrow and loss. One must not be in sorrow, instead comprehend that this is the norm in human life.

Islamic Books - ReviewsOctober 30, 2006 11:56 pm

muhammad

Since the 7th Century, the sacred biography of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad has shaped the perception of the religion and its place in world history. English biograqphies of Prophet Muhammad–founder of the faith that currently claims 1.5 billion followers, have characteristically presented the Prophet in the light of verifiable historical facts. Compiled from classical Ottoman Turkish sources and translated into English, this comprehensive biography skillfully etches a personal portrait of a man of incomparable moral and spiritual stature, while revealing mystical, prophetic secrets. This biography should be of interest to scholars of Islam and to all who seek to understand the essence of the faith, through the life example of Prophet Muhammad.

The Following is a short transcript taken from the book;

Ramadan, the Blessed 5

“I went up to him and greeted him and he rose in answer to my Salams. Then he spread his wings, and all the heavens and the Earth were covered by their expanse. He then kissed my face and said, ‘Good tidings to you, and to your nation!

The Lord Almighty has decreed that your nation might have a singularly blessed month so that He might forgive them their sins.

This holy month is the month of Ramadan and it is meant as a gift for you and your nation.

For its sake your nation will find forgiveness. I have been sent here this very night to announce to you this great gladness.’

Then I saw two boxes standing before him.

On each of them there was a key of light.

I asked that angel what was inside of those boxes. He told me, ‘In one of these boxes there are the letters of release from Hellfire for those among your nation who fast the whole month of Ramadan until the new moon, up till the Day of Judgment.’

According to a different narration, the angel is to have said, “Every day of Ramadan,

at the time of Iftar (the breaking of the fast), the Lord Almighty frees from Hellfire six hundred thousand of His servants who have fasted.

When Jum’a (Friday) has come, He frees six hundred thousand prisoners every hour for twenty-four hours from Hellfire until the Night of Power has come.

On that blessed night, that is to say, during the twenty-four hours making up that night and day, at the beginning of every hour the Lord frees from Hell as many of His servants as He has freed since the beginning of the holy month, including the Jum’a days.

The last day of Ramadan, at the time of Iftar (the breaking of the fast), the Lord sets free as many of His servants as He has freed during the whole month, including the Jum’a days and the Night of Power.”

The Holy Prophet {S} continues:

“The angel told me that the other box contained this precious gift:

‘On the Day of Judgment, seventy thousand persons of your nation will be granted entry into Paradise without questioning or reckoning.

Their release certificates are contained in this box. In addition to these seventy thousand, each one of them will be granted the release of another seventy thousand from among his friends and relations and other disobedient Muslims.

They, too, will be released without reckoning and granted accession to the heavenly gardens.

This box contains the letters of release for all of them. Tuba, glad tidings to you and your nation, oh Rasulullah {S}!’”

By the term “Tuba” he meant to say, “Oh Rasulullah {S}, among all the countless and unbounded pleasures of the People of Paradise, the delights of the Tuba tree are reserved for you and your nation.”

This expression is metaphorical; the part signifies the whole, and speaking about the Tuba tree, signifies the totality of delights in the entire heavenly realm. In the sense mentioned above, Tuba signifies a tree in Paradise. However, the word ‘tuba’ is also (grammatically) the feminine form of the word ‘atyab’, (which means better, more excellent). This can be interpreted as follows:

“I give tidings of gladness to you and your nation; those who pass their days in the world in a good way and spend their time in a commendable fashion, who perform good works all their lives, and when they reach the end of their days will return their trusts in the light of faith, uttering the words of unity; whose questioning in the grave by the angels Munkar and Nakir will be made easy and whose graves will resemble a Garden of Paradise in which they will be at ease; who on the Day of Gathering will be gathered under the Banner of Praise and who will receive many gratifications under the shadow of the Great Throne; who will be given their book of accounts into their right hand and whose reckoning will be light; who will cross the bridge of the Sirat along with those who are the first to cross it, and who will by the Grace of Allah be of those who enter Paradise freely, without questioning or Judgment; who will be granted the sweetest of all bliss in being privileged to gaze upon the Divine Beauty of the Lord and thus will have attained their ultimate desire – these are the tidings I give to you and your nation, oh Muhammad {s}.”

The Holy Prophet’s r report continues:

“I then beheld another angel who had the shape and form of a rooster and was created from white pearls. This angel had seventy thousand wings to his left and seventy thousand wings to his right. On each wing there were seventy thousand feathers made of pearls, and seventy thousand feathers made of rubies, and seventy thousand feathers of red gold, and seventy thousand feathers of silver, and seventy thousand feathers of pure musk, and seventy thousand feathers made of camphor, and seventy thousand feathers of ambergris, and seventy thousand feathers made of saffron. He reached in height from the Throne to the lowest of the seven layers of the earth. On each one of his wings were written these words:

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim, La ilaha ill’Allah, Muhammadan Rasulullah.

Kullu shay’in halikun illa wajhahu, al-Wahid ul-Qahhar.

(In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the All-Compassionate. There is no God but Allah; Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger. All must perish save His Divine Countenance, He who is One, the All-Vanquishing.)

“At every prayer time, this angel would raise his head and repeat the glorification:

Bismillahil-‘azhim wa bi-hamdihi

(In the Name of Allah, the Mighty and in Praise of Him.)

“His Tasbih was thus:

Subhanaka, ma a’zhama sha’nuka.

(Praise be to Thee, how great is Thy Glory!)

“After this, he would flap his wings together, and as he did this, wondrous sounds issue forth from this flapping. When these tones reach the Paradise Gardens, the boughs of the trees of Paradise would bend and sway against each other, and it would carry on to the ruby and garnet domes of Paradise which resound with melodious echo. These tones rouse the Huris and Ghilman of Paradise, and they say to each other, ‘Good news! The time for prayer has come to the nation of Muhammad {s}!’ Then, this great angel begins to move and his movement makes the Throne tremble. The Lord then asks him, ‘What makes you tremble?’ and the angel answers Him, ‘Oh my Lord, the nation of Muhammad {s} has risen for prayer, and yet there are among them such a great number of sinners. Therefore I tremble.’ The Lord thereupon says, ‘Oh angel, be unperturbed! I am obliged to dispense of My Mercy upon those who pray. Witness that I train upon them the Gaze of Mercy and that I have forgiven them. I have freed them from Hellfire, for the honor of My Beloved, I have granted them dwelling in the Paradise of Mawa.’ Thus the Lord proclaims His great Kindness and Munificence.”

The intricately patterned metal doors, heavily secured with antique locks, guard the sacred chamber of the place where the house of Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha was; the most loved daughter of our Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, who is resting in his Abode of Peace a few meters to the left. This was the residence of Syeda Fatimah and her husband Hazrat Ali and their five esteemed children, Imam Hasan, Imam Hussein, Imam Mohsin (who died in childhood) Umme Kulthoom and Syeda Zaynab RadhiAllahu anhum.

This small room was the earthly home of the Queen of Jannah! Her husband, Hazrat Ali RadhiAllahu anhu being one of the ‘Asharah Mubasharah, the ten to have been given the glad tidings of their place in Jannah, with Hasan and Hussein being the Masters of the youth in Jannah! Such a humble dwelling exchanged for the most magnificent mansion in Paradise! The Prophet said, "On the Day of Judgment, a caller will call out, ‘lower your gaze until Syeda Fatimah has passed."

Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha will be the first woman to enter Jannah, where she will be surrounded by Al-Hur with downcast eyes due to the extreme reverence they have for her! Their exceptional beauty will wane in her presence, as their beauty is their natural disposition as gifted by Allah Ta’ala, whereas Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu earnt her status and radiance from the sacrifices and struggles she endured throughout her short life for the sake of Islam and her Akhirah. SubhanAllah.

When the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam traveled for five hundred thousand light-years on his journey to the Seven Heavens, and arrived at the fifth paradise which is called Jannat al Naim, the Garden of Beauty and Felicity, with doors of mixed gold and silver from heaven, he saw beautiful ladies whose radiant light among their servants made them appear like diamonds surrounded by pearls. His heart was moved towards them. He asked Jibreel, "Who are these ladies?" He answered, "This is Khadeeja, your first wife and the first Mu’minah, this is Maryam, the mother of Isa, and this is Asiyah, the wife of Firoun." (Some say Hawwa, the mother of all humanity, and Yukabid the mother of Musa are among these ladies, Allahu ‘Alum.) The most glowing lady looked like a sun among stars. Her light shone over the rest of the inhabitants of that Paradise. Jibreel said, "This is an angel representing your daughter Fatimah, 0 Prophet!"

Her mission to support the new Message bestowed on her father, our Beloved Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam began when she was only five. She witnessed much of the torture and torment he was subjected to from such an innocent age. It was our Glorious Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha who with passionate grief ran to the aid of our Noble Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam and cleaned his body from the filth the Quraysh threw on him when he was in Sujud in the Ka’aba. From her chaste lips she stood cursing the Quraysh.

Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha seeing her father SallAllahu alaihi wasallam being shunned and abused so much at one time asked him to halt this mission of spreading and propagating Islam, but he replied to the effect that he would never desist from what Allah Ta’ala has commanded him to do and that these actions made him even more determined to spread the Truth throughout the world.

Life in Madinah was a series of different tests and trials.

Hazrat Ali RadhiAllahu anhu wanted to propose to Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam for Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha, but he had nothing. When Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam heard of this he asked, "Where is your coat of mail I gave you on such and such a day?" (Some narrations say it was a shield) Ali RadhiAllahu anhu replied, "I have it." The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam said, "Give that to her." It is said that Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha married Hazrat Ali RadhiAllahu anhu for an iron coat of mail! Other narrations offer slight variations saying that she also received an old Yemeni shawl and a worn out sheep skin, which they slept on during the night and would turn it over during the day using it to put the feed for the animals.

The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam instructed that fresh sand be spread on the floor of their original house, and he gave them gifts of a palm leave bed, a leather pillow stuffed with palm fibre, a waterskin and a stone grinding mill. Slight variations have also been narrated. Their life was simple, both working tirelessly. The touching story of Tasbih Fatimah humbles us to accept all conditions Allah Ta’ala in His Wisdom presents to us.

The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam made the following beautiful Du’a for them.

The First, The Beginning, The Foremost, The Last, The End, The Ultimate, The Most Powerful, The Most Merciful for the Humble, The Most Merciful for the Merciful. O Allah, forgive my sins, be generous to my nature, make my earnings lawful. Satisfy me with Your sustenance. And do not let my heart turn to anything You have diverted away from me.

Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam also instructed Hazrat Ali RadhiAllahu anhu to perform five acts every night before going to bed.

1. Give 4,000 dinaar, gold coins, as Sadaqah

2. Read the Qur’an Shareef once.

3. Pay the price of Jannah.

4. Reconcile two fighting persons.

5. Perform Hajj.

Ali RadhiAllahu anhu said: Ya Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, this is difficult for me. I will not be able to do that. Whereupon Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam replied:

1. Recite Surah Fatiha 4 times and the reward for giving 4,000 dinaar will be recorded in your Book of Deeds.
2. Recite Surah Ikhlas 3 times, and this will be equal to the reward of reciting one Qur’an Shareef.
3. Recite Durood Shareef 3 times, and this will be the reward of paying the price of Jannah.
4. Recite Astaghfirullah 10 times and you will receive the reward of reconciling two fighting persons.
5. Recite the third Kalimah 4 times to receive the reward of performing one Hajj.

On hearing this Hazrat Ali RadhiAllahu anhu said, Insha’Allah I will perform these acts every day before going to bed.

During the battle of Uhud, the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam sustained wounds to his face and head, and it was Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha who washed the blood while Ali RadhiAllahu anhu held the water. When she saw that bleeding was increasing continuously, she burnt a mat of date-palm leaves till it turned into ashes which she put over the wound and thus the bleeding ceased.

One day Allah’s Apostle SallAllahu alaihi wasallam went to Fatimah’s house but did not find ‘Ali there. So he asked, "Where is your cousin?" She replied, "There was something between us and he got angry with me and went out. He did not sleep for the mid-day nap in the house." Allah’s Apostle SallAllahu alaihi wasallam asked a person to look for him. That person came and said, "O Allah’s beloved! Ali is sleeping in the mosque." Allah’s beloved SallAllahu alaihi wasallam went there and found him lying with his upper body uncovered as the sheet had fallen down and he was covered with dust. The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam started cleaning the dust from him saying: "Get up! O Aba Turab. Get up! O Aba Turab. There was no name dearer to Hazrat Ali than his nickname Abu Turab, the father of dust. He used to feel happy whenever he was called by this name.

When Hazrat Ali RadhiAllahu anhu had shown his dislike for what Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha had said to him she tried to win back his favour and circled around him seventy one times asking for his forgiveness. The next time she went around him he revealed a slight smile.

The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam requested Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha to visit a very pious lady, the wife of a woodcutter, who lived a little out of Madinah. Allahu ‘Alum, if this was in relationship to the incident when Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha upset Ali. So Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha set out to visit this lady whom her father recommended, walking in the hot sun over dusty tracks. She came upon the humble hut consisting of one room and knocked on the door, giving the greeting of Salam. A voice from inside asked who was there. Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha replied, "Fatimah, the daughter of Rasulullah." An answer from behind the door said that she did not have permission from her husband to allow any body to enter, that she would request permission, and Insha’Allah, she come back the next day. So Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha returned to her house with the intention of visiting the following day. She decided this time to take Imam Hasan and Imam Hussein RadhiAllahu anhuma with her. So she once again made the journey to the woodcutters wife. Once again knocked on the door and stated who she was and how he father had sent her. The woodcutter’s wife could hear the voices of the grandsons of Rasulullah and said through the closed door, but I only received permission for Lady Fatimah to visit. Insha’Allah I will ask my husband if I may invite young Syedina Hasan and Syedina Hussein in as well. Once again Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha walked the dusty track back to Madinah, with the intention of returning the next day, which she did and this time she entered the humble woodcutter’s home.

As they sat talking Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha saw that there was one small window high in the wall with a beam of sunlight streaming through. At the end of this beam were a few pieces of bread. As the light beam moved, so too did the woodcutter’s wife move the pieces of bread, so they remained in the sunlight. This fascinated Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha, who found herself asking why the woodcutter’s wife was doing such a thing. Whereupon she explained that her husband went out each day, all day long in the searing sun with a few pieces of bread in his pocket, with the bread becoming dry and hard in the hot sun, and that she did not feel comfortable eating soft bread if her husband could not! SubhanAllah!

Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha noticed three mats on the ground constituting the bed, and she knew that there was only the wood cutter and his wife, so she politely inquired about the third mat. The woodcutter’s wife explained, that if her husband happened to turn during his sleep she would not like that her back would be facing him, so she would get up and go to the other mat. Repeating this moving of position if he happened to turn. Such respect and obedience to her husband winning her the praise of Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam!

I have heard Ulema narrate that this woodcutters wife will be the one leading Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha’s horse into Jannah, SubhanAllah, and that Almighty Allah knows best, and therefore enter before Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha. This has also been said of Syedina Bilal RadhiAllahu anhu. That he will be honoured by holding the rope of al-Buraq, the same miraculous steed Rasulullah rode to Paradise during the Night Visit, when Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam rides it into Jannah. Allahu ‘Alum.

The great love and affection the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam had for his daughter was seen in the manner in which whenever Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha would visit her father SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, it was he who would stand and kiss her forehead before offering her his seat! When he set out on any journey it was her that he visited last, and upon his return, after attending to prayers in the Masjid, Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha was the first to be visited.

Only six months passed after the death of her Beloved father SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, when she too was called back to Allah Ta’ala. Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam had told her that she would be the first person to meet him in the world beyond death. Her Janazah was the first to use the modest custom of making a cover for the deceased female. This was based on a previous conversation she had with Asmaa bint Anees RadhiAllahu anha when she said, "I do not like the dead bodies of women taken to the grave yard uncovered." Asmaa RadhiAllahu anha, who had been in Habshah, explained how they created a frame over the body of a woman. She demonstrated this to Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha with two long stems of the date palm forming an arch over the body, then draping a sheet over them to conceal the shape. Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha was thus carried to her grave in Jannatul Baqi upholding all the resplendent qualities befitting the name of Zahra.

Syeda Fatimah RadhiAllahu anha, represents the embodiment of all that is divine in womanhood, the noblest ideal of feminine virtues, who was proclaimed by her devoted father SallAllahu alaihi wasallam to be the Queen of Jannah. May Allah Ta’ala shower her and all her noble lineage with the most brilliant of lights and the most fragrant of perfumes. Ameen. And may He, place in our hearts a desire and tenderness to follow her endearing examples. Ameen.

All good is from Allah Ta’ala whereas mistakes are from this humble speck. May Allah Ta’ala Bless all readers, bringing you all closer to Him and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. Ameen.

The Arabic Hadith relating to when Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam called Hazrat Ali RadhiAllahu anhu "Aba Turab":

Poetry 12:36 am

corner

One night in solitude I sat in prayer
I sent a gift of praise for Him to hear

I praised Him as much as I could
His Glory ran across my vein and blood

I saw my gift rising across the sky
But it returned don’t know why

I asked it for the cause
"Why heaven did refuse?"

It replied,

"I sailed through the clouds
Angels looked at me with wondrous eyes

I traveled faster than light
I raced ahead of my own sight

In the end I reached the eternal Tree
Beyond which to proceed I wasn’t free

I was asked to return back
There was something in me lack

Came a Voice,

"Return back, O earthly creature
In you We see not Our Beloved’s feature"…

Ah! Then did this foolish slave remember-
Madina’s mention he had forgotten to utter.

O Reader! If from Him an answer you expect
Make sure for His Beloved you show respect

He is the only link between Earth and Heaven
The thread by which this world in mercy is woven

You wish to win His Pleasure and Love?
‘let blessings on His Beloved freely flow’

O the sincere slaves of God!
Why do you think this hypocrite writes this ode?

He too wishes to raise his hand from the crowd
When asked to drink from the Beloved at the haudh

A small corner in paradise is his only wish
Beloved’s love can only win him such niche’

That Beloved is the mercy for all worlds
Since ages many tried, but his praise still lack words

Ah! Our human language is shaped by limits
But Beloved has reached the highest of heights

He is the leader of the worlds twin
Earth, heavens, angels, jinn, and man-

Yet it is our biggest fortune:
(As God commanded him to say)
"I am but a man like you" yet he is not..

O the sincere slaves of God!
Why do you think this hypocrite writes this ode?

Love makes one so helpless-
Asthaghfirullah! To You I confess-

Forgive! If I crossed the limits of Law
I am young; the fruit of my faith is still raw.
