The Madinah branch of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has made adequate arrangements to help Haj pilgrims, Suleiman Al-Towaijeri, director of the branch said.

The commission has recruited a number of language experts to help the field staff who will visit various places in Madinah, particularly the locations that attract a large number of pilgrims.

The commission’s emphasis will be to guide and instruct pilgrims about proper conduct and prayers while visiting religious sites.

The programs of the commission, which will be implemented in collaboration with the related government departments, will continue through Feb. 2.

The commission has trained its field workers to speak English so that they can interact with most of the pilgrims.

An important duty of the commission’s workers will be to instruct the pilgrims about what they are allowed to do while visiting graveyards. They will also advise the pilgrims not to violate instructions and to strictly follow Shariah.

Another strategy adopted by the commission to overcome the language barrier, the director said, is to enlist the help of 140 students belonging to various nationalities studying at universities in the Kingdom. A weeklong training course was organized to train the students how to interact with the pilgrims.

Students will be accompanied by members of the commission’s field teams. They will mainly visit locations where the pilgrims usually gather in large numbers.

The locations are the Baqi Graveyards, site of the Battle of the Trench, seven mosques, the area surrounding the Prophet’s Mosque and at the pilgrims’ arrival points. More than one million brochures in 38 languages will be distributed at these points. The director said that his men would try to prudently handle all difficult situations.

One day my dear mentor gave me much scold
Listening to his voice, tears in my eyes rolled

I left the assembly unable to speak
So that none would see me so meek

That day my heart was drowned in pain
In search of relief, towards my friend I ran

And then I briskly narrated my heart’s plight
In front of my friend whose face is full of light

After listening silently for time long
I got a reply that made me strong-

"Why lose heart, O Irfan
Bold ones never cry so soon.

Your dear mentor gave you such painful advice
Since you are dear to him than anyone else

You should feel rather blessed and fortunate
That a great one like him is with you intimate"

O Reader! A friend’s role is to defend
When life’s trials upon you descend.

Alas! No matter how severe is the winter
Your friend will say, ’spring will one day enter’

A true friend is a Him-sent candle
For hope in His Mercy to kindle

O sweet one sweetened by His Fear!
Tell me something new
Plenty are the news of Iblis,
Angels’ talk are but few.

Make my tears flow in His thought-
Closer is He than the vein around my throat

May I rest my head in your hands?
To sink my pain as water in the sands

Every morning I wake up in His Name-
"Allah! Let there be no killing in the world
May I approach closer to my Merciful Lord!"

But it only gets worse and worse
I miss reading His Book’s single verse

I used to cry thinking about the Ummah
But the condition gets worse, everyday

The Rose is robbed of its smell
Nightingale’s song they silently kill

The creed is ousted from its own garden
For those who rule it has become a burden

For how long can I hope for a candle?
Where is a noble soul for faith to kindle?

I am fed up with this merciless system
Which strips the tree, leaving the stem

To whom will I complain?
Who will share my pain?

O dear! I have thus withdrawn to your company
Fed up with the world where all run behind penny

Show me anything but not the gloomy black,
Color my heart with love to bring the joy back.

Notes

* Closer is He than the vein around my throat: Referring to the Quranic verse that God is closer to man than his own jugular vein

* gloomy black: The color of pessimism; darkness

What good is a poem without your name. What good is a flower without your praise.

Allah Created you then us. You are an example of Allahs beauty.

To see you would be a dream come come true. To meet you would be heavenly.

All that I see was created for you. The moon and stars for your pleasure. The birds and bees for your praise.

You came to this world to wake the living dead. And in that you succeeded. You turned a cold heart into a heart of gold with your presence.

Never has a man like you ever affected so many lives. Before you and even after you.

To love you is to love Allah. To love Allah is to love you. There is no other way.

So I ask you Oh Beautiful Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), Please take me by your blessed hand and eluminate my dead soul.

Only you can guide me to my Lord.

you truly are what the Qur’an says, A MERCY TO ALL MANKIND.

Imam Muhammad ibn Said al-Busiri (rahimah-Allahu ta’ala), who passed away in 695 A.H., was one of the superiors of tasawwuf. He was one of the awliya’ educated by Abu ‘l-’Abbas al-Mursi ash-Shadhili, who was Abul-Hasan ash-Shadhili’s Khalifa. When he suffered a stroke and half of his body was paralyzed, he asked for Rasulullah’s help and composed his famous qasida in praise of the Highest of Mankind, Muhammad (’alaihi ’s-salam), to whom he chanted it in his dream. Rasulullah liked it and took off his khirqa, put it on the Imam and rubbed the paralyzed parts of his body with his blessed hand. When the Imam woke up, his body was restored to health, and the khirqat as-saada was still on him. That was why his eulogy was called “Qasidat al-Burda.” ‘Burda’ means ‘khirqa, overcoat.’ Hadrat Imam ran in joy to the mosque for morning salat, and on the way met a person known for his righteousness and pious asceticism, who said:

“I would like to listen to your qasida.”

“I have many qasidas. Everyone knows all of them,” the Imam said.

“I want the one which no one knows and which you recited to Rasulullah last night.”

“I haven’t told anybody about it. How do you know it?”

Thereupon, that person told exactly what the Imam dreamt. Vizier Baha’ ad-din heard about this qasida, had it recited through and listened to it standing respectfully. It has been seen that the sick got well and places became safe of malady and calamity when it was recited. In order to receive the value of it, it is necessary to believe and read it with a sincere resolve.

Qasidat al-Burda is composed of ten parts:

The first part expresses the value of the love for Rasulullah.

The second part explains the wickedness of man’s nafs.

The third part praises Rasulullah.

The fourth part tells about Rasulullah’s birth.

The fifth part explains that Rasulullah’s prayers were accepted instantaneously.

The sixth part praises the Qur’an al-karim.

The seventh part explains the subtleties in the Miraj of Rasulullah.

The eighth part tells about Rasulullah’s jihads.

In the ninth part, he asks Allahu ta’ala for mercy and maghfira and asks Rasulullah for intercession.

The tenth part tells about the superiority of the status of Rasulullah.
